SEO packages in India: prices and what you actually get

By 7 min read

Short answer: SEO packages in India cost ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 a month depending on how competitive your market is. A small local business usually needs a one-time setup of ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 plus, if it wants steady growth, ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 a month. Anything below ₹5,000 a month is usually automated reports, and any package that promises "rank #1 guaranteed" should be ignored.

If you have searched for SEO packages, you have seen the same thing we see: a "Basic" plan at ₹4,999, a "Gold" plan at ₹14,999, a "Platinum" plan at ₹29,999, each with a long list of items like "25 keywords", "10 directory submissions", "monthly report". None of it tells you whether your phone will ring. This guide explains what SEO actually is, what each price band buys in India, how to read a package list, and the red flags that cost owners lakhs every year.

What SEO is, in one paragraph

SEO (search engine optimisation) is the work that makes your website show up higher in Google when people search for what you sell, without paying for ads. It has three parts: technical (the site loads fast, works on phones, and Google can read it), content (each page clearly answers what a customer is searching for), and reputation (other sites, directories, and reviews confirm you are real and good). Since 2025 the same work also decides whether AI tools such as ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews mention your business, which we explain in what GEO is.

SEO pricing in India: the four bands

Monthly price What you usually get Who it suits
₹3,000 – ₹7,000 Automated tools, directory submissions, a keyword report, sometimes spun articles. Little human work. Honestly, almost nobody. It rarely moves a business.
₹8,000 – ₹20,000 A real person: technical fixes, page titles and text, two to four articles a month, Google Business Profile updates, a simple report. Local businesses: clinics, shops, services, coaching, restaurants
₹20,000 – ₹50,000 A small team: content strategy, more articles, link outreach, competitor tracking, conversion improvements. Businesses competing city-wide or state-wide, multi-branch, B2B
₹50,000+ Agency team, technical audits, content at scale, PR-style link building. National brands, e-commerce, funded startups

One-time SEO setup is a separate model and often the right one for small businesses. It costs ₹8,000 to ₹25,000 in India and fixes the things that hold a site back: speed, mobile issues, titles and descriptions, sitemap, Search Console, structured data. After that, a business that is not in a crowded market can simply keep its Google profile active and add a page or article now and then.

How to read an SEO package list

Package lists are written to look full. Here is what the common items mean:

  • "25 keywords" – they will track 25 search phrases. It says nothing about whether those phrases bring customers. Ten phrases that people actually search in your city beat 100 that nobody types.
  • "Directory submissions" – listing you on Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMART, and similar. Useful once, done in a day, not worth a monthly fee.
  • "Backlinks" – links from other websites to yours. Good ones (local news, suppliers, associations) help. Bulk cheap ones from unrelated sites can get you penalised.
  • "On-page optimisation" – fixing titles, headings, and text on your pages. This is real, valuable work. Ask how many pages per month.
  • "Content writing" – ask who writes it, in what language, and whether you approve it. AI-spun articles that read like nothing add nothing.
  • "Monthly report" – ask for calls, WhatsApp messages, and enquiries, not just "rankings improved".
  • "Guaranteed #1 ranking" – nobody controls Google. This is the biggest red flag in the industry.

What a good small business SEO package should include

Whether it is one-time or monthly, a package worth paying for in India covers:

  1. A check-up of the website: speed, mobile, broken links, pages Google cannot read.
  2. Keyword research for your city and services, shared with you in plain words.
  3. One page per service, each with a clear title, your city, and the questions customers ask.
  4. Google Business Profile set up or cleaned up, with categories, services, and photos. Our step-by-step guide to getting your shop on Google Maps shows what that involves.
  5. Technical basics: sitemap, Search Console, structured data, and an llms.txt file so AI tools can read the site.
  6. A review plan: a link and a QR code so happy customers can leave Google reviews.
  7. A report you understand: what changed, what improved, what is next.

Monthly plans add new articles, page improvements, and tracking of your position in Google and in AI answers.

Red flags that cost owners money

  • "Guaranteed page one in 30 days." Impossible to promise honestly.
  • They will not tell you what they do each month. If the work is secret, it is probably automated.
  • Thousands of backlinks for a few thousand rupees. This gets sites penalised.
  • The website login stays with them. You should own your site, domain, and Google profile.
  • Long lock-in contracts. Six-month or one-year contracts with no exit protect the agency, not you.
  • Reports full of "impressions" and "rankings" but no enquiries. Rankings are a means, not the goal.
  • The same package for a bakery and a real estate builder. Different markets need different work and budgets.

How long SEO takes

Be suspicious of anyone who says "two weeks". Typical timelines in India:

  • Weeks 1–4: technical fixes and Google Business Profile changes start to show on the map and in "near me" searches.
  • Months 2–3: new service pages begin to rank for specific searches ("root canal cost in Vadodara").
  • Months 3–6: steady growth if content and reviews continue.
  • Month 6 onwards: the compounding stage, where each new page adds to the total and enquiries come without ad spend.

A new website starts slower than an old one. Local businesses see results faster than national ones.

How to compare two SEO quotes

Ask both providers the same six questions and write down the answers:

  1. Which exact searches will you target, and why those?
  2. What will you change on my website in the first month?
  3. Who writes the content, and do I approve it before it goes live?
  4. What will my monthly report show?
  5. What happens if I stop after three months? What do I keep?
  6. Show me two businesses like mine that you have worked with and what changed.

The cheaper quote is not always worse and the dearer one is not always better. The one that answers these clearly is the one to pick.

Our SEO & GEO Setup is ₹17,999 one-time: a full website check-up report, titles and descriptions for up to ten pages, speed and mobile fixes, Google Search Console and sitemap setup, and the AI search setup (structured data and llms.txt). The short version

SEO packages in India range from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 a month, but for most small businesses the right spend is a one-time setup of ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 and, if you want steady growth, ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 a month with a real person doing real work. Judge a package by what it changes on your site and by enquiries, not by the number of keywords, and walk away from anyone who guarantees rankings.

Common questions

Is SEO a one-time cost or a monthly cost?

Both models exist. A one-time setup fixes the technical problems, titles, speed, and structured data, and is enough for many small local businesses. Monthly SEO adds new content and improvements each month and makes sense when you compete with many businesses for the same searches.

What is the cheapest SEO that actually works?

For a local business, a correctly set up Google Business Profile plus a one-time website tune-up. Together they cost ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 in India and bring most of the result. Monthly plans below ₹5,000 are usually automated reports and directory submissions, which do very little.

Do I need SEO if I already have a Google Business Profile?

The profile gets you on the map for "near me" searches. SEO on your website gets you found for questions, services, and areas the profile cannot cover, and it makes the profile itself rank better. Start with the profile, then the website.

SEO or Google Ads: which is better for a small business?

Ads bring enquiries this week and stop the day you stop paying. SEO takes three to six months and keeps working afterwards. Most small businesses do best with a small ad budget while the SEO builds up, then reduce the ads.

Can I do SEO myself?

The basics, yes: clear page titles, one page per service, your city on every page, real photos, and steady reviews. The technical parts, such as speed, structured data, and search console fixes, are cheaper to have done once by someone who does it daily.
