Google Ads cost in India: what small businesses really pay

By 8 min read

Short answer: Google Ads has no fixed price. You pay only when someone clicks your ad, and in India a click for a local business search usually costs between ₹5 and ₹60. Most small businesses spend ₹9,000 to ₹15,000 a month on the ad budget itself, plus an agency fee if someone manages it for them.

"How much does Google Ads cost?" is the first question every owner asks us, and the honest answer is "it depends" — but that is not helpful, so this guide gives you real numbers. It covers how Google Ads pricing works, what a click costs in India, what a monthly budget actually buys, the costs people forget, and why some businesses pay three times more than others for the same customers.

How Google Ads pricing works

Google does not sell ads at a fixed rate. Every time someone searches, Google runs a quick auction between all the businesses that want to show an ad for that search. Three things decide what you pay:

  1. Your bid. The most you are willing to pay for one click. You can set this yourself or let Google set it.
  2. Your quality score. Google's rating (1 to 10) of how well your ad and your website match what the person searched for. A higher score means you pay less for the same position.
  3. Competition. How many other businesses want the same click and how much they bid.

The important part: you pay per click, not per view. Your ad can appear 1,000 times and cost you nothing if nobody clicks. This is called CPC (cost per click).

You also set a daily budget. Google will not spend more than about double your daily budget on any single day, and never more than your daily budget multiplied by 30.4 in a month. There is no minimum. The ad budget is paid directly to Google, not to your agency.

What a click costs in India

Click prices vary a lot by industry, city, and how urgent the search is. These are typical ranges we see for small businesses in India at the time of writing:

Type of search Typical cost per click Examples
Local shops and everyday services ₹5 – ₹30 "bakery near me", "tailor in Satellite", "mobile repair"
Home services and repairs ₹15 – ₹60 "AC service", "plumber near me", "pest control"
Health and clinics ₹20 – ₹100 "dentist near me", "physiotherapy clinic"
Coaching and education ₹30 – ₹150 "IELTS coaching", "CA coaching classes"
Real estate, finance, legal, B2B software ₹100 – ₹500+ "2 BHK flats", "home loan", "CRM software"

A bigger city and a more competitive category push you towards the top of each range. A small town, a niche service, or a well-set-up campaign pushes you towards the bottom.

A real example from our own research. In September 2026 we pulled the Google Keyword Planner estimates for 18,000 Indian search terms related to marketing services. Advertisers were bidding about ₹31 to ₹170 for a click on "seo services", ₹141 to ₹889 for "google ads pricing", and up to ₹2,849 for "local service ads". The same tool, the same country, and a 90-times difference between the cheapest and dearest click. That is why "what does Google Ads cost?" can only be answered for your business, not in general.

What a monthly budget actually buys

Let us make the numbers concrete. Suppose your average click costs ₹20 and 5 out of every 100 visitors contact you (a 5% enquiry rate, which is normal for a decent landing page with a WhatsApp button).

Daily budget Monthly ad spend Clicks a month Enquiries a month Cost per enquiry
₹200 ₹6,000 300 15 ₹400
₹300 ₹9,000 450 22 ₹400
₹500 ₹15,000 750 37 ₹400
₹1,000 ₹30,000 1,500 75 ₹400

Notice that the cost per enquiry stays the same as the budget grows. A bigger budget does not make ads cheaper; it just brings more of the same enquiries. What changes the cost per enquiry is the quality of the setup, which we cover below.

Now think about what one customer is worth to you. If a dental clinic gets ₹3,000 from an average new patient, a ₹400 enquiry that converts one time in three costs ₹1,200 per patient. That works. If you sell a ₹150 product once, it does not, and you should look at Instagram ads or a Google Business Profile instead.

The costs people forget

The ad budget is only part of the bill. Before you start, add these:

  • Management fee. If an agency or freelancer runs your ads, expect ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 a month for a small account in India, or a percentage of ad spend (usually 10–20%) for bigger accounts. Some agencies charge a one-time setup fee instead.
  • GST. Google charges 18% GST on ad spend for Indian accounts. A ₹10,000 budget costs ₹11,800. If your business is GST-registered you can claim it back as input credit.
  • A page for the ad to land on. Sending clicks to a slow home page wastes them. A simple landing page or a good business website with a WhatsApp button is part of the real cost.
  • Enquiry tracking. Without call and WhatsApp tracking you cannot tell which keywords bring customers. Setting it up takes a little time, and it is the difference between guessing and knowing.
  • Your time. If you run ads yourself, count two to three hours a week for the first two months.

Why some businesses pay three times more than others

Two dental clinics in the same city can pay ₹40 and ₹120 for the same click. The expensive one usually has one or more of these problems:

  1. Broad match keywords with no negative list. Google shows the ad for "dentist salary" and "dental college", and the clinic pays for people who will never visit.
  2. Targeting all of India when customers can only come from a 10 km radius.
  3. Ad text that does not match the search. Someone searches "root canal cost" and sees "Best dental clinic". Low quality score, higher price.
  4. Landing on the home page instead of a page about the exact service.
  5. Running ads 24 hours when nobody calls after 9 pm.
  6. Never checking the search terms report, so the same waste repeats every month.
  7. Using the "Smart" campaign type with no control over keywords. It is easy, and it is often the most expensive way to run ads.

None of these are hard to fix. They are simply invisible unless someone looks.

Seven ways to lower your Google Ads cost

  1. Start with exact and phrase match keywords, not broad match.
  2. Build a negative keyword list on day one: free, jobs, salary, course, meaning, PDF, and anything else you do not sell.
  3. Draw a tight location around the area customers actually come from.
  4. Write ads that repeat the search words and mention your city and one clear benefit.
  5. Send clicks to a page about that service, with the phone and WhatsApp buttons visible without scrolling.
  6. Set an ad schedule that matches when you can answer calls.
  7. Review the search terms report every week for the first two months, then every two weeks.

Do these and a ₹9,000 budget often brings more enquiries than a badly set up ₹25,000 budget.

Is Google Ads worth it for a small business?

Google Ads works well when:

  • People already search for what you sell ("AC repair", "dentist near me", "CA for GST filing").
  • One customer is worth at least ₹1,000 to you, or customers come back.
  • You can answer calls and WhatsApp messages quickly during the day.

Google Ads is usually not the first step when:

  • Nobody searches for your product yet (a new brand, a new kind of snack). Instagram ads or a Google Business Profile do better; see our guide on Google Ads or Instagram ads.
  • Your website is slow or has no clear way to contact you. Fix that first.
  • You cannot afford to test for at least two months. One week tells you almost nothing.

If you are only starting, a free Google Business Profile will often bring your first local customers at no cost, and ads can come after that.

What we charge

We believe the price should be clear before the first message, so here it is. Our Ads Setup package is ₹7,999 one-time: we set up your Google Ads or Meta Ads account, build and launch one campaign, write the ad text and images, set up enquiry tracking, and walk you through everything so you can run it yourself. Our Ads Management plan is ₹12,999 per month, and we run and improve the ads every week with a simple monthly report.

Your ad budget is separate and is paid by you directly to Google. The account stays in your name. Full details are on the Google and Meta Ads service page and the pricing page.

The short version

Google Ads costs whatever you decide to spend, because you pay per click and set your own daily budget. In India a local business click usually costs ₹5 to ₹60, and most small businesses spend ₹9,000 to ₹15,000 a month plus an agency fee and 18% GST. The setup, not the budget, decides whether that money brings customers. Start with tight keywords, a small area, a good landing page, and tracking, and give it two months before you judge.

Common questions

What is the minimum budget for Google Ads in India?

There is no minimum. You can run ads at ₹100 a day. In practice, most small businesses need ₹300 to ₹500 a day (₹9,000 to ₹15,000 a month) to get enough clicks to learn what works and to get a steady flow of enquiries.

Do I pay Google if nobody clicks my ad?

For search ads, no. You pay only when someone clicks. Your ad can show hundreds of times for free. Display and YouTube ads can be charged per thousand views instead, but a small business usually starts with search ads.

Why is my cost per click going up?

The usual reasons are more competitors bidding on the same words, a low quality score because your ad and landing page do not match the search, or Google expanding your keywords to searches you did not intend. Adding negative keywords and tightening the location usually brings it back down.

How soon will Google Ads bring enquiries?

Search ads can bring the first calls or WhatsApp messages within a few days of going live, because you are reaching people who are already searching. The first month is for learning which words and areas work. Results usually improve in months two and three.

Can I run Google Ads myself instead of paying an agency?

Yes. Google Ads is free to use and there is no rule that you need an agency. Many owners waste money in the first months on wrong settings, so a one-time professional setup with a walkthrough is a good middle path if you want to manage it yourself.
