Facebook ads cost in India: rates, budgets and what works

By 10 min read

Short answer: Facebook ads cost in India is whatever daily budget you set, from roughly ₹80 to ₹100 a day at the time of writing, and Meta charges through an auction per view, click or result. In our experience a small business usually pays ₹40 to ₹250 per 1,000 views, ₹3 to ₹30 per click and ₹40 to ₹300 per WhatsApp message or lead, with real estate, finance and education at the top end. ₹300 to ₹500 a day is where results become steady.

Owners ask us about Facebook ads cost in India because the Boost button keeps asking for money and nobody explains what it buys. We have already written about Instagram ads cost in India, and since both run from the same Meta account, the auction and the billing are the same. This post covers what is different about Facebook: who is still on it, which goals to use, typical Facebook ad rates at the time of writing, what ₹100, ₹300 and ₹500 a day buy, boosting versus Ads Manager, page promotion versus real ads, what raises your cost, a 7-day starter plan, how to read results, and the page basics to fix first.

Who is still on Facebook in India

Facebook is not where trends start, but a lot of buying happens there, especially outside the metros. In our experience the Facebook audience for a small business looks like this:

  • Older buyers. People in their late thirties and above, who decide on property, insurance, health, education for their children, furniture, and family purchases.
  • Tier-2 and tier-3 towns. In smaller cities Facebook is often the main social app, and the cost of reaching people there is usually lower than in the metros.
  • Groups. Local buy-and-sell, housing society and community groups where recommendations travel.
  • Marketplace. Widely used to look for furniture, vehicles, property and local services, which makes Facebook a natural place to advertise those categories.

If your customer is a 22-year-old in a metro, Instagram usually wins. If your customer is a 45-year-old parent in a district town, Facebook is often cheaper and better.

Which objectives a small business should use

Meta lets you pick a goal for every campaign. Four of them cover almost every local business:

  1. Messages, especially click-to-WhatsApp. The ad opens a WhatsApp chat with your number, with a pre-filled first line. This is the goal we use most for shops, clinics, salons, classes and services, because the enquiry lands where you already reply.
  2. Leads with instant forms. The form opens inside Facebook, pre-filled with the person's name and number, so it is easy to submit. Good for real estate, education, insurance, solar, interiors and anything with a follow-up call. Quality varies, so call fast.
  3. Calls. A call button on the ad. Works for urgent services like repairs, ambulances, emergency dental, towing and pest control.
  4. Local awareness (reach). Show a new opening, a festive offer or a menu to everyone within a few kilometres. Cheap and useful once a quarter, but it does not produce enquiries you can count.

Avoid "engagement" and "page likes" as goals if you want customers. Meta will find people who like posts, and those are rarely the people who buy.

What Facebook ads cost in India at the time of writing

These are typical ranges we see for small businesses. Your industry, city and creative decide where you sit inside them, and festival season pushes everything up.

Objective What you pay for Typical cost band in India Best for
Reach or awareness 1,000 views (CPM) ₹40 – ₹250 New openings, offers, menus, local recall
Traffic One click to your website or profile ₹3 – ₹30 Sending people to a fast page that explains a lot
Messages (click-to-WhatsApp) One conversation started ₹30 – ₹200 Shops, salons, clinics, classes, services
Leads (instant form) One form submitted ₹40 – ₹300; higher in real estate, finance, education Anything with a sales call after the enquiry
Calls One call started ₹50 – ₹300 Urgent services
Page likes One page like ₹2 – ₹20 Almost nothing; see below

Across most accounts we see, tier-2 and tier-3 targeting is usually cheaper per view than metro targeting, and messages from Facebook tend to be fewer but more serious than from Instagram for high-ticket categories.

Facebook ads price per day is yours to set; Meta may spend up to roughly double on one day while keeping the weekly average at your budget.

What ₹100, ₹300 and ₹500 a day realistically buys

Rather than promise numbers, here is what each budget usually feels like for one local campaign:

  • ₹100 a day (about ₹3,000 a month). Enough to show a post to a good part of a neighbourhood or small town over a month. As a message campaign it produces enquiries in fits and starts, because Meta never gets enough results in a week to learn who your customers are. Treat it as a test or a reach bump, not a lead engine.
  • ₹300 a day (about ₹9,000 a month). The point where a WhatsApp or lead campaign usually settles down: a steady trickle of enquiries most days, enough data after two weeks to see which ad and which area work, and a cost per enquiry you can trust.
  • ₹500 a day (about ₹15,000 a month). Room to run two or three creatives against each other, add a retargeting ad for people who already messaged or watched the video, and cover a whole city or district rather than one area.

Cost per enquiry does not fall because you spend more. A better offer, a better video and a faster reply are what lower it.

"Boost post" or Ads Manager?

Boosting is Ads Manager with most settings chosen for you: same auction, same prices, fewer choices. Boost when a post is already doing well and you want more locals to see it. Use Ads Manager (free, on desktop or in the Meta Business app) when you want messages, leads or calls, because it lets you pick the goal, draw a radius, exclude existing followers, run several creatives at once, and see cost per result.

Page promotion versus running ads

"Promote your page" is an ad with the page-likes goal. Facebook page promotion cost in India is whatever you set, and a like is usually cheap. The problem is that likes are not customers, and Meta shows your organic posts to only a small share of your followers anyway. Spend the same money on a click-to-WhatsApp campaign and you get conversations you can count. The only time it makes sense is a brand-new page that needs a few hundred real local followers so it does not look empty when ad viewers check it, and a week of that is enough.

What raises your Facebook ad cost

  • Weak creative. A stock image with a logo gets scrolled past, so Meta charges you more per result. A phone video of the owner or the work usually costs less per message.
  • Too wide an audience. Targeting the whole state when customers come from 5 km wastes most of the spend.
  • No landing point. Sending people to a profile with no offer, or to no WhatsApp welcome message, turns clicks into nothing.
  • A slow website. If the ad points at a page that takes ten seconds to load on a cheap phone, most people leave before it opens and you paid for the click anyway.
  • One ad running for months. The same people see it, stop reacting, and the price climbs.
  • Slow replies. Meta counts the message as a result whether you answer in a minute or a day. The cost is the same; the customer is not.
  • No GST number on the account. Meta adds 18% GST to ad spend; a registered business can claim it back only if the number is on the account.

A 7-day starter plan

  1. Day 1: Fix the page basics (next section). Create the Meta Business account and ad account in your own name, add your GST number and payment method.
  2. Day 2: Shoot three short vertical videos on your phone: the owner explaining one offer, the work or product being made, and a customer collecting or a before-and-after. Write one clear offer line for each.
  3. Day 3: Build one campaign in Ads Manager with the Messages goal pointing at WhatsApp, a radius around your business, an age range that matches your buyers, and the three videos as three ads. Set ₹300 a day.
  4. Day 4 and 5: Reply to every message within minutes. Save quick replies in WhatsApp Business for prices, timings and location. Note where each enquiry came from.
  5. Day 6: Look at cost per message for each ad. Do not change anything yet; Meta is still learning.
  6. Day 7: Switch off the most expensive ad, keep the other two, and plan the next video. Judge the campaign after two to four weeks, not seven days.

How to read the results

Ignore likes, reach and impressions. Look at:

  • Messages or leads received, and how many were real people with a genuine need.
  • Cost per message or lead, which is spend divided by that number.
  • How many became customers, tracked in a simple sheet or your WhatsApp labels.
  • Cost per customer, and whether it is comfortably below what a customer is worth to you.

If cost per customer works, raise the budget slowly. If not, change the offer or the creative before the budget. Our post on Google Ads or Instagram ads helps you decide which platform deserves the money, and the Google Ads cost in India guide gives the matching click prices for search.

Facebook page basics to fix before you spend

Ad viewers tap through to the page. If it looks abandoned, you paid for the click and lost the customer.

  • Profile photo and cover that show the shop, the team or the work, not a blurry logo.
  • Correct category, address, timings and phone number, matching your Google Business Profile.
  • A WhatsApp button and a call button on the page.
  • Reviews turned on, with a few recent ones and replies from you.
  • Three to five recent posts with real photos, so the page looks alive.
  • Messaging switched on with an instant reply set for after hours.

The short version

Facebook ads cost in India whatever daily budget you choose, from roughly ₹80 to ₹100 a day, and Meta charges per view, click or result through an auction. In our experience a local business pays ₹40 to ₹250 per 1,000 views and ₹40 to ₹300 per WhatsApp message or lead, and ₹300 to ₹500 a day is where results settle. Facebook still reaches older buyers, smaller towns, groups and Marketplace shoppers, so use it with a click-to-WhatsApp, lead form or call goal, not page likes. Fix the page first, shoot real video, keep the radius tight, reply within minutes, and judge the campaign on customers, not likes.

Common questions

What is the minimum budget for Facebook ads in India?

Meta accepts roughly ₹80 to ₹100 a day for a simple campaign at the time of writing, and there is no contract. That is enough to test an ad in a small area, but in our experience ₹300 to ₹500 a day is where a small business starts getting steady messages or leads rather than random results.

How much does a Facebook ad cost per day in India?

You choose the daily amount yourself, from about ₹100 a day. Meta then charges per view, click or result through an auction, so ₹100 a day usually buys a few hundred to a few thousand views in a local area, while ₹500 a day can bring a handful of WhatsApp messages or leads daily for a well-made ad.

How much does it cost to promote a Facebook page in India?

Page promotion is an ad with the goal of getting page likes, and it costs whatever you set as a budget, from about ₹100 a day. In our experience a page like usually costs a few rupees to a few tens of rupees, but likes rarely become customers. Money spent on a message or lead campaign usually brings more enquiries.

Are Facebook ads cheaper than Instagram ads in India?

They come from the same Meta account and the same auction, so the price is set by who you target, not by the app. Facebook often reaches older buyers and smaller towns at a lower cost per view; Instagram reaches younger city audiences. Most small businesses select both and let Meta place the ad where it is cheapest.

What does a Facebook lead cost in India?

In our experience a WhatsApp message or instant form lead from Facebook usually costs between ₹40 and ₹300 for a local business, and more for real estate, finance, education or health. The offer, the creative and how fast you reply change that number far more than the budget does.
