Website development cost in India: real 2026 prices

By 7 min read

Short answer: In 2026 a professional website for a small business in India costs ₹10,000 to ₹40,000 one-time. Template "₹999 website" offers exist but usually cost more once you add what is missing. E-commerce stores start around ₹30,000, and custom-built sites go from ₹50,000 to a few lakh. On top of that, budget about ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 a year for the domain and hosting.

Every day, owners message us saying "I got a quote for ₹2,999 and another for ₹75,000 for the same website. Which one is right?" Both can be. This guide explains what actually decides website development cost in India, what each price band includes, the yearly costs nobody mentions in the quote, and the questions to ask before you pay anyone (including us).

The four price bands

Price band What you get Good for
₹0 – ₹5,000 a year (do-it-yourself builder) You build it on Wix, Google Sites, or similar. Their branding unless you pay. Testing an idea, a hobby, a very early stage
₹999 – ₹5,000 (template shops) A ready template with your name and photos put in. Usually 1–3 pages, stock text, extra charges for changes, domain and hosting billed separately. Someone who only needs "a link" to share on WhatsApp
₹10,000 – ₹40,000 (professional small business site) Custom design on a proven structure, text written for you, mobile-first, WhatsApp and call buttons, Google Maps, basic search setup, your own domain. 1–10 pages. Shops, clinics, services, coaching, restaurants, agencies
₹50,000 – ₹3,00,000+ (custom or e-commerce) Custom features: online payments, booking systems, product catalogues, customer logins, integrations with your software. Online stores, booking-based businesses, startups

Most small businesses in India are best served by the third band. It is the point where the website starts to bring customers instead of just existing.

What changes the price

Two websites with the same number of pages can cost very different amounts. These are the things that move the price up or down:

  1. Number of pages. A one-page site and a ten-page site are different amounts of design and writing.
  2. Who writes the text. "You send us the content" is cheap for the developer and slow for you. Many owners never send it, and the site never launches. Text written for you costs more and gets the site live.
  3. Design. A ready template is cheap. A layout designed around your business costs more and looks like you, not like everyone else.
  4. Photos. Stock photos are free but generic. A half-day photographer costs ₹3,000 to ₹10,000 and makes a bigger difference than any design change.
  5. Mobile quality. Most Indian visitors are on a phone. "Mobile-friendly" is not the same as "designed for mobile first". Ask to see it on your own phone before you pay the final amount.
  6. Search setup. Correct titles, fast loading, sitemap, and structured data so Google and AI tools understand the site. Cheap sites skip this entirely.
  7. Features. Enquiry forms, WhatsApp buttons, and maps are standard. Online payment, booking, catalogues, customer logins, and multi-language add real work.
  8. Speed of delivery. A fixed one-week deadline usually costs more.

The yearly costs nobody puts in the quote

A website is not a one-time purchase. Ask about all of these before you compare quotes:

Yearly item Typical cost in India Notes
Domain name (.com or .in) ₹800 – ₹1,500 a year Register it in your name
Hosting ₹0 – ₹6,000 a year Simple sites can be hosted free or very cheaply; WordPress needs paid hosting
SSL certificate (the padlock) Usually free If someone charges ₹3,000 for it, ask why
Business email (name@yourbusiness.com) ₹1,500 – ₹3,000 per user a year Google Workspace or Zoho Mail
Maintenance and small changes ₹0 – ₹3,000 a month Updates, backups, changing timings or prices
Renewal of premium themes or plugins (WordPress) ₹2,000 – ₹8,000 a year Often forgotten until the site breaks

For a simple business site, expect ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 a year in total. For WordPress or e-commerce, expect ₹10,000 to ₹40,000 a year. If you are set on WordPress, our WordPress website cost guide lists every renewal item by item.

Why a ₹999 website often costs more

We are not against cheap websites. We are against surprises. This is what typically happens with a very cheap offer:

  • The ₹999 is for a template with your name inserted. Any change to the layout, text, or extra page is charged separately.
  • The domain is registered in the company's name, so you cannot leave without losing your web address.
  • Hosting is ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 a year extra, billed at renewal when you have no choice.
  • The text is stock text ("We are a leading provider of quality services…") that helps nobody and that Google ignores.
  • There is no WhatsApp button, no map, no search setup, so the site does not bring enquiries, and then owners conclude "websites don't work".

Add the changes, the domain, the hosting, and a second attempt a year later, and the ₹999 website has cost ₹15,000 and a lot of frustration. A clear ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 quote that includes everything is usually the cheaper option.

Website development cost by business type

These are typical ranges for a professional site, not template shops, in India today:

Business Typical cost What it usually needs
Local shop, salon, tailor, bakery ₹10,000 – ₹20,000 1–5 pages, WhatsApp button, map, timings, photos
Clinic, dentist, physiotherapist ₹15,000 – ₹35,000 Services pages, doctor profiles, appointment request, reviews
Restaurant or cafe ₹12,000 – ₹30,000 Menu, location, order or reservation link, photos
Coaching class or tutor ₹15,000 – ₹35,000 Courses, batches, enquiry form, results
Real estate agent or builder ₹20,000 – ₹60,000 Property listings, enquiry per property, gallery
Small online store (up to 50 products) ₹30,000 – ₹80,000 Products, cart, payment gateway, shipping, GST invoice
Custom web application ₹1,00,000+ Anything with logins, dashboards, or custom logic

Questions to ask before you pay anyone

  1. Is the domain in my name, and will I get the login?
  2. What exactly is included in the price, and what costs extra?
  3. What will I pay every year after the first year?
  4. Who writes the text, and how many rounds of changes are included?
  5. Can I see it on my phone before final payment?
  6. Is Google search setup included (titles, speed, sitemap, structured data)?
  7. Can I update small things myself, or do I have to pay for every change?
  8. Can I see three sites you built for businesses like mine?

If the answers are vague, the final bill will be too.

The short version

A professional small business website in India costs ₹10,000 to ₹40,000 one-time in 2026, plus ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 a year for the domain and hosting. Very cheap template offers usually cost more once you add changes, hosting, and a domain you do not own. Pay for the things that bring customers: text written for you, a mobile-first design, WhatsApp and call buttons, and a proper search setup.

Common questions

Can I get a website for free?

You can build one yourself on a free website builder, but it will carry the builder’s branding and address (yourshop.builder.com), show their ads, and be hard to move later. Free is fine for testing an idea. For a real business, a paid domain and a simple professional site cost less than one month of rent.

Do I own the website after paying?

You should. Make sure the domain name is registered in your name and that you get the login for the domain and hosting. If a company insists on keeping the domain in their name, walk away. Everything we build stays in the customer’s name.

How long does it take to build a website in India?

A one-page website takes about five working days once you share your details and photos. A full five- to ten-page business website takes about two weeks. E-commerce and custom projects take one to three months.

Is WordPress cheaper than a custom-coded website?

Usually yes for the first build, because there are ready themes. But WordPress needs paid plugins, regular updates, and security care, so the yearly cost can end up higher. For a small business site that rarely changes, a well-built simple site is often cheaper over three years.

How much does an e-commerce website cost in India?

A small online store on Shopify or WooCommerce with up to 50 products usually costs ₹30,000 to ₹80,000 to set up, plus ₹2,000 to ₹6,000 a month for the platform, payment gateway charges of about 2% per order, and someone to update products.
